“My Guy’s” Birthday!

THE CARD:

My card for Guy

Saturday was my husband’s birthday…..41!!!  Whewww…now some may think that’s over the hill or at least past the turning point and on the way down..LOL….but not my husband, the eternal optimist.  Forty-One is actually his favorite number.  It was always his number whenever he played any kind of sport; softball, basketball, flag football…you name it.  Only he could find a reason for “41″ to be a special year in his life.  Nevertheless, his postive spirit and optimistic outlook has provided me with a much needed balance in my life.  See, I would’t necessarily call myself a pessimist, so much as a worrier.  I worry enough for my whole family and then some.  He has an uncanny way of putting my fears to rest and reassuring me that everything really works out for the best.  Now you may be picturing my DH as a overly cheery, Mister Rogers type…not true (not that that’s such a bad thing).  He’s actually just a simple man who looks at life from a realistic point of view…In fact his favorite saying is, “It is what it is,” which I guess is pretty true when it all comes down to it.  We can’t fret over things we have no control over, nor should we play the “woulda, shoulda, coulda” game when things don’t work out exactly as we wanted or planned.  Life is really too short and we should enjoy every moment regardless of whether or not they meet our expectations.  I could rant on and on about my philosophies on life and his, but I’ll save that for another post.

So back to “My Guy’s” birthday….the funny part about that is that my DH’s name is actually “Guy”!  Being such a simple, laid back guy (no pun intended), when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said he just wanted a homemade birthday cake and to stay at home with his girls (Me, Abby and Ava)  Now Ava’s a bit young, but Abby and I did our best to make a special cake for “Daddy.”  I regret now that I didn’t take a picture…I know, I know I committed a mortal sin for all bloggers and scrapbookers…but we were lucky we managed to get the cake done and have it be edible.  It was a strawberry cake we made from scratch…yes, I said scratch….and while it didn’t look very pretty it was really yummy.  I’ll post the recipe later in case anyone is interested.

So I guess the morale of this post is:

  1. Live life to the fullest
  2. Cherish Every Moment
  3. All of your cards should be handmade….and…..
  4. When all else fails….EAT CAKE!

Seriously…Happy Birthday Guy….May this be your best year ever…I love you!

Happy Stampin’ Everyone!

P.S.  The card was created using the Crazy for Cupcakes Stamp Set.  The DSP is from the retired Simply Scrappin’ Kit, Summer Days.

GREAT post – lots of fun to get to know you and your hubby. I’m a worrier, too, and my hubby calms me and gives me the balance I sometimes need. TFS! oh, and that’s the cutest card – I just LOVE the sparklies!! I think I “need” that set!! lol!

  2. DUDE – you’re such a good wife. I need a picture of the cake before I can make it. How do you make a strawberry cake from scratch? Inquiring minds need to know. NOW.
Did your guy have a hard time turning 40? Maybe my life is looking up. If 41 is a good thing – it will get me out of 40 – which was HELL. But now I’ve decided just to tell everyone I’m 50 – because I look pretty darn good for 50. Dontcha think?
    Stop by sometime!
